It was in the fall of 2004 that I first came to
Ironically,
Along with two other nurses, I traveled to Sjambok at the insistance of a teacher there named Tiny. Tiny had heard about the 'American nurses' that had come to the area, and quickly sought us out. We soon embarked on an adventure that still continues today.
As we started to examine and treat over 700 students, called 'learners', we began to understand the overwhelming conditions there. Extreme malnutrition, skin infections, active TB, eye infections that lead to blindness, and HIV/AIDS are just some of the problems that the children faced everyday.
So much has changed since then! There have been many success stories. Yet there is still much to do!
So, what can you do to help?
First, please pray for the children of Sjambok. There is nothing more powerful than prayer!
Second, help me build a well for Sjambok's children. A continuing
supply of water will do many things. For many of the children at Sjambok, malnutrition is a major issue. The one
Water is needed to irrigate gardens at the school. Gardens equal food. And lots of it. Let's feed these children.
